Repairing leaking windows




This document apply only to BASISLINE and CABINLINE windows produced by N.C.BJERG or ERTEC Danmark ApS in Denmark.

Leakage in a window is normally due to old and rigid gaskets.

Some of the gaskets can be replaced and some are impossible to replace.
In this document we try to explain what is possible to repair.

Gaskets for fixed windows:

Fixed windows can leak when gasket no. 1 or 4 are defective.
Gasket no. 4 can be replaced and is available in 10 meter kits.

Gasket no. 1 is impossible to replace.
On the other hand it's possible to "repair" gasket no. 1, please see the bellow illustration.
During the production of your window the frame was physically modified in order to hold the glass and the gasket.
This modification is not reversible.

Gasket no. 1 goes around the glass = It is captured inside the frame together with the glass.
Please see the drawings and explanations on our website.
 Repairing gasket no. 1 will make the window waterproof unless gasket no. 4 is also defective.

Gaskets for opening type windows:

Gasket no. 2 is also captured inside it's frame, but in some cases (see note 2) it's possible to change it.
The replacement can only be done by us, since the gasket no. 2 - unlike any other gasket in our windows - has a welded joint.
Welding the gasket requires special tools, and no glue can be used.
Please notice that gasket no. 1 is used both on fixed and opening type windows, and has the same importance for both types.

For replacing Gasket no. 2 the best result is achieved by sending us the complete window.
Otherwise we wont be able to guaranty a watertight window, since we wont be able to test the opening unit against the rest of the system.

(Note 1) - The repair instructions are only provided as is, and the repair is done on your own risk.
(Note 2) - some cases = when the frame is neither corroded on the outside nor inside (not visible)! If the frame is corroded a new frame pair is necessary.
